FAQ’s
What is hand tufting?
A hand-tufted rug or carpet is unique since it is made by hand through use of a hand tufting gun. Hand tufting is an art. The hand tufter places each individual yarn in a patterned design using a backing material. The end result is a beautiful unique piece of art for the wall or floor.
Each hand-tufted rugs is unique. We enjoy the creative process and working with our customers to achieve a product that reflects their individual style.
Due to the originality of this process imperfections are expected. Use of natural materials combined with the human element are what makes our rugs unique. An imperfection would be considered a flaw in a mass-produced machine-made rug, but these imperfections are what add character to our handtufted rugs.
What should I know about hand-tufted rugs before I buy?
Shearing & Shading:
Shearing marks, uneven shearing and shade variation due to shearing will appear in a hand tufted carpet or rug. These are characteristics of hand-tufted rugs and are not manufacturing defects.
Sprouting & Shedding:
Sprouting is defined as, ‘strands of yarn popping up from face of rug’ this is expected for a month or so. If this happens simply lift the fiber gently until taught and trim flush with the rug. We recommend using a vacuum without a beater bar or brush.
Shedding of loose fiber can occur for several months after placement and is not a manufacturing defect. You may find your vacuum bag filled with loose fibers. This is to be expected and will lessen with more vacuuming.
Fading:
This does occur in wool rugs (and others) and it may be a result of the rug being exposed to direct or indirect sunlight, oxidation, or ozone fading. This is particularly noticeable in dyed white wool rugs. Whites are fussy because raw wool is yellow in color and dyes may make wool have a pink or yellow hue. This is expected and is not a manufacturing defects.
